Great Actress!

I am glad to see keeley getting more movie roles. I think she is very talented and beautiful. She was great in Death at a Funeral! I hope she
get roles in the US soon!

reply

ditto that, only with James D'Arcy. I hope he has a decent sized role in this, because he's such a great actor and doesn't get nearly enough roles for his talent.

reply

oh, ditto with that statement!!! James is also very talented and gorgeous!

reply

Hawes is a one note actor. Cuteness only goes so far.
Let the rant begin.

reply

No rant here; I'm in full agreement, truenewyorker. 'Great Actress' should always append any mention and/or description of the incomparable Jodhi May, but Keeley?....no way. Jodhi May's stage and screen work ranks right up there with the likes of Britain's best, i.e. Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Joley Richardson, to name a few.

reply

Slippin24, you read my mind. I love Keeley's voice and I think she is a very good actress. However, Jodhi may is intense and plays each and every character as if she's lived and breathed their lives for the whole of her life. Can't wait to see this.

reply

Keeley is a very good actress; I've never been disappointed with her work.

Look out for Felicity Jones! A young actress with a lot of potential.

reply

I agree Jodhi is incomparable- by some distance in my opinion the best actress of her generation in Britain- but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Keeley, who was woefully miscast in "Tipping the Velvet " - (all else apart, she can't sing ! )but still turned in an excellent performance. I've also seen Felicity Jones on stage at the Royal Court Theatre and believe me, she's going to be mega. I've got a ticket to see FOAF in a preview at the National Film Theatre and can't wait Nick

reply

a preview? cool! couldn't see it listed on the bfi website - is it open to the public?

reply

Open to members and its the same day (18th April at 8pm) that the movie premieres in Leicester Square, so I guess its not a preview as such- tho' it was billed as that in the latest BFI guide(April ed. p.9 ). The Leicester Sq premiere is invite only for highups, "luvvies" and such, I suppose - so at least the NFT audience including me will get to see the film a little before the general public.I'm hoping the wonderful Miss May et al will turn up for the NFT screening but I rather doubt that. Nick

reply

hm - still can't find it on thier site, but maybe will ring the box office. the premiere is actually on the 13th: http://www3.westminster.gov.uk/events/forthcoming.cfm so isn't the BFI one on the first day of it's general release?

nickspo, I fully agree with you that Keeley was miscast in TTV. Matter of fact, I think her being good friends with Rachael Stirling woefully hindered their more intimate scenes together. With the right casting, there certainly wouldn't have been the need for the shots of whiskey before they could relax enough to shoot. TTV is the only exposure I've had to Keeley Hawes, so I'll withhold any further impressions until I've had a chance to see more of her work.

Jodhi May still reigns, though! *g*

reply

Keeley is a wonderful actress. She's done such a large range of roles and she hasn't failed to impress in any of them BESIDES that is, TTV. I was apalled with her performance on a whole, considering how much I admire her as an actress. Bad casting indeed, but she did sort of pull it out of the bag. Ish. She's a lot better at emotional scenes. She's had some really good ones in Ashes and I loved some of what she got to do in Spooks too. Don't dismiss her as being 'cute'. Infact that is so not the word I'd have used to describe her.

I really hope she has got at least a large-ish part in this film; she deserves something good.

There is a marvelous article in The Telegraph on Daniel Craig and the film. There are also two wonderful clips, both featuring Craig and Keeley Hawes playing his sister who is obviously a bit frustrated and disappointed in brother.
The trailer for the film is also on the site. I must admit, after viewing only the trailer, I was lukewarm on the film. After seeing the two clips, I am much more inclined to see the film as it looks more like a character study than a "something awful happened when I was a stupid teenager and now I'll have to pay" movie.

Yeah Keeley Hawes is really good. But I think Helen McCrory is an amazing Actress as well!

reply

I thought Keeley was quite good..
But I thought Fliss Jones damned near stole the show with her Young Ruth..
She's got great presence.. I find I can't take my eyes off her when she's on screen..
Definitely one to watch for in future.
She's come a long ways since her Ethel Hallow days.. ;)
