did anyone actually see this?

I never heard of it until it won all the oscars!

Yes, lots of people saw it.

I am not sure how to look at the numbers for movies that are released on apps only.

If anyone has the numbers do share...

Even 'the-numbers.com' doesn't have the numbers... link... https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Coda-(2021)#tab=summary

$1.9 million box office is dismal. I've seen a lower figure of $1.6 elsewhere.

They need to release it on DVD instead of hoping people will subscribe to their streaming service to watch it.

I'm not sure how updated that number is though. This movie is still playing at theaters in my area.

And I have to admit, streaming is becoming a bit of a hassle to deal with. It's too bad we cant just get any movie any time with just one streaming service but I guess that is too much to ask for. lol..

At any rate, I decided to sign up for the appleTV app to see this film. I went ahead and kept it after the free trial. I could have cancelled it after watching CODA but I started watching an apple series called For All Mankind and got instantly hooked on it. The 2nd season of this series hasn't been nearly as good though, it's getting kinda boring...

I will only have this app for a month, no more...

But again, I don't think there really is anyway to find out how many people have seen this movie.

I'm not sure that streaming services disclose that information about people. Only money earned. It costs $10 million to make so they're losing a lot of money.

I would see it in the theater if it wasn't for covid. I'm patient so I'll wait until it's in the library or streamed. I have zero interest in Apple even as a free trial.

I saw it twice. It has some “after school special” vibes and really aims for the adolescent girl market but, it celebrates families and has minimal wokeness and a positive message in the end. When I saw it, I would never have imagined it as an Oscar best picture because the story had some contrived aspects necessary to artificially create drama IMHO

I'm from Gloucester Massachusetts originally where this takes place (same fishing community that the Perfect Storm took place) and I shamefully still haven't seen it. Even more shameful a pretty good friend of mine from high school who is now a fishing boat captain was named in their thank you speech because he worked with them on the fishing aspects of the picture and even with that I still haven't managed to see it yet. Man I suck lol

Your situation is similar to mine. I decided to watch it because I had a relative that went to the school (Berklee College Of Music) that was featured in this movie. It is a good movie but I am probably somewhat bias because Berklee is in the movie.

Although, it is a rather unique film. It has some memorable scenes in it. I think it's definitely worth watching if you're from that area. Although, Marlee Matlin's acting style is kind of weird. I'm not sure if I actually like her or not in this movie. lol...

Still, it was worthy of a best picture nomination. But yeah, it probably garnered a few votes in the name of diversity when the Academy picked it. But whatever... it's still good.
