Jones Isn't a Remarkable Enough Singer

The girl gives a winning performance, but her singing, while lovely, simply isn't remarkable enough to make the teacher's reaction even remotely plausible. She just ain't that great a singer, folks.

True, but I don't think she really gives a "winning" performance, either. It's obvious she's new at signing and the script gets rather tiresome. How many times does she sing the same song over and over?

It was the point of the story that she was rehearsing particular piece. It's a realistic point.

I agree - it's one of the first things I noticed. I actually enjoyed Olivia Cooke's singing in "Sound of Metal" more than Emilia's.

This is not a musical, and she doesn't present herself mainly as a singer. This is an acting role that also includes singing. If the film makers had wanted the best singing, she could have lip synced another singer. That's the way it's often done, including musicals. She does the singing because it's realistic for a high school student.
