Nominated for best picture Oscar.

Well deserved.

The movie is cute enough.
But "best picture", I would never personally select it.

Coda
95% Rotten Tomatoes
93% Audience score

Each to their own.

In a positive/negative balance like Rotten Tomatoes does, there's nothing wrong with that.
It's a movie cute enough that basically everyone can enjoy it.
To absolutely love the movie and call it a masterpiece, that to me is difficult to understand, especially in a remake.
But it's true, to each their own.

The Departed was a remake, won best film.

Return of the King was a remake, there was an animated film called that. Won best film.

Coda is no masterpiece but neither are any of the others this year.

reply

Why are you citing technicalities like Lord of the Rings being a remake? Is this serious?

It's a normal movie, a 7/10. If you love it good for you.

reply

And the winner is… Coda!

It now takes it’s place amongst the other 9 best picture remakes Mutiny on the Bounty, Hamlet, Gigi, Ben-Hur, The Sound of Music, Oliver!, Chicago, The Return of the King and The Departed.

*its

Yes, it's a very surprising it ended up gaining enough steam to win.
In the last few years it joins Green Book as simple, basic movies winning this award.

reply

A Hallmark-ish TV movie like this one would have never been nominated in the past.

reply

Agree about it being essentially a Hallmark-style movie with deaf-leads. Will she stay or will she go? Will she serve her family, or follow her dream?

Really?
Is there any tension?

Aside from the deaf leads there was nothing particularly original in this film. The father in particular was charming & engaging. His nomination is well-deserved.

Won SAG award highest honor
