An absolute triumph

I have slogged through some cinematic tripe these past two years, but stumbling across a gem like this makes it all worth it. Perhaps it was because my favorite uncle was a commercial fisherman that really struggled at times, but I related to the plight of the main characters. That aside, the principle characters were fleshed out and relatable. Their interactions were at time both humorous and endearing. The main character was the daughter (played by Emilia Jones). I as a viewer was pulled out of reality and into her struggle...be it between her yearning for romance, her loyalty to family, or her destiny as a singer. Without spoiling it, in the end, love of family ultimately prevailed making it an uplifting movie.. Can't recommend it enough.

Agreed. The fact that they fleshed out the secondary characters as well and made them memorable and endearing was so well done.

Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast didn’t do this for me and mostly ignores the secondary characters and I think CODA puts that movie to shame. I found myself moved by this film and found it very uplifting.

I also think Belfast has some similarities in feel to this movie.
They're both a 7/10.

Well said. Agree 100%. If you don't like this film, you really need to check your pulse.

It wasn't a terrible film, but if you thought this was "great" by any stretch of the imagination, you really ought to watch more films. It wasn't even the best film of the last 6 months. I've seen trailers that were better than this thing.

Thanks for your reply. I've studied film. I've been watching movies for 61 years. This was a great movie, in my opinion, and no stretch of my imagination was necessary. But it is, admittedly, only my opinion. Such is the nature of art. Your opinion is obviously different and I appreciate your input. We disagree.
