They were just really good friends. At the party, he was saying that she was the only girl he was comfortable talking to was her, and he'd never even kissed anyone. So she kissed him, and said 'now you have, now go talk to the girl with the bedazzled shirt.'
At least that's how I saw it.
Im sure after he was kissed he felt like he had even more of a chance with her.
