I respectfully disagree. All you need to do is look at bands like Dashboard Confessional, City and Colour, The Great Fiction, Coldplay, Oasis, Bush and on and on to know that A.D.D. would certainly make it in the "real world".
When we talk about "making it" there is a broad spectrum. For example, Sigur Ros, they have legions of fans and have been making music for 12-13 years, and yet what song of theirs has ever been in the Top Twenty radio play? Some people consider this *the* measure of success, while others might consider this garbage.
Take for example, Hooverphonic... this is a great band, but no top twenty radio play, and yet they are awesome. Same goes for bands like Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Bliss, and on and on. These bands have success, yet have never had popular radio play.
No Such Thing by John Mayer is no different than Bitter. Yellow by Coldplay is no different, and both of these songs had great success.
I think A.D.D. would make it, I'm not saying they'd have staying power. Perhaps they'd be a one-hit-wonder, but they still would sign with a label, release a record that would sell modest numbers, they'd tour and do a video, etc.
It's all about what you call "making it". At some level, A.D.D. would "make it".
