would A.D.D. make it in the real world?

I'm more into post rock bands like Sigur Ros, Explosions in The Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and This Will Destroy You! So I wouldn't be a fan of them, not catchy enough, and the lyrics kinda blew. But would they make it in todays world? And what was the deal with Curtis wearing black pants, black leather jacket, and a Slipknot T-Shirt? dosen't that conflict with his character's personality?

Don't worry, I saw Lord of the Rings. I'm not going to end this 17 times.

this really isn't an answer to your question.
But one thing I found funny was that the kind of people who went to see "Vesuvius" wouldn't be the kind of people that would like A.D.D
Heavy Metal fans who tell them to get off the stage. They would want crazy riffs and drum solos. (Why they didn't allow Rainn to do a single drum solo knowing that it would only bring positive results was beyond me).

Modern rock with songs like "Bitter" would last about a week in the real world, and then some other band would take their place.

Not to mention the fact that the big kid with the curly hair on the keyboard was barely noticable in the songs they played except for the one where he starts it off.

By the way, I also am a huge fan of Sigur Ros.

A Fellow Sigur Ros fan, awesome!

This doesn't have much to do with the movie but I wanted to say Explosions In The Sky put on the best live show I ever saw.

If the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus can make it, a band with music like this would. All the little girls would love the lead singer and they would like the simplistic sappy songs and THAT is what makes band like this succeed...for a while at least.

It's just light pop rock. I liked the songs, so I would say yes they would make it, but they certainly would not appeal to the same crowd as Vesuvius.

And before the argument starts as to why they would be asked to open, consider that in 1982 Prince opened for the Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum. (He was booed off stage).

I saw The Raspberries open for Blue Oyster Cult in about 1974, at the Auditorium in Chicago. Managed to play "Go All the Way" before a hasty exit.

Joan Jett booed off the stage at a special summer all day show at Comiskey Park, while imploring,"Don't you want to rock, Chicago?". Next band up was also met with disdain but promptly won the crowd over with their chops. That was, Flock of Seagulls.

Not a proud moment for Chicago wasn't it?

I respectfully disagree. All you need to do is look at bands like Dashboard Confessional, City and Colour, The Great Fiction, Coldplay, Oasis, Bush and on and on to know that A.D.D. would certainly make it in the "real world".

When we talk about "making it" there is a broad spectrum. For example, Sigur Ros, they have legions of fans and have been making music for 12-13 years, and yet what song of theirs has ever been in the Top Twenty radio play? Some people consider this *the* measure of success, while others might consider this garbage.

Take for example, Hooverphonic... this is a great band, but no top twenty radio play, and yet they are awesome. Same goes for bands like Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Bliss, and on and on. These bands have success, yet have never had popular radio play.

No Such Thing by John Mayer is no different than Bitter. Yellow by Coldplay is no different, and both of these songs had great success.

I think A.D.D. would make it, I'm not saying they'd have staying power. Perhaps they'd be a one-hit-wonder, but they still would sign with a label, release a record that would sell modest numbers, they'd tour and do a video, etc.

It's all about what you call "making it". At some level, A.D.D. would "make it".

Well I actually looked Teddy Geiger up and he is an established musician. I myself really enjoyed the soundtrack and still listen to it a fair bit, I also grabbed a couple of Teddy Geiger's CDs and they're pretty much the same thing, so the answer would be yes they could seeing as he actually IS making a living off of his music.

I think that's it's a little ironic that you insulted their lyrics (not that I totally disagree) when I'm pretty sure that 3 of the 4 bands you listed are instrumental bands so don't have the responsibility of having to write meaningful lyrics. Then the fourth band is Icelandic so I don't know what they're saying anyway lol.

And about the black pants, leather jacket and Slipknot T-shirt. I noticed that to and I think that it was supposed to be out of character because he was acting out of character and like an arrogant "rockstar" douche. I thought it was pretty cheesy...but in a mildly enjoyable but fully cheesy movie, it more or less fit.

they were a terrible band but i love how you represented This Will Destroy You! great band.

reply

Yes, but only if Rainn Wilson really was the drummer everyone sees naked on youtube.
I'm also big on Sigur Ros~!

If unoriginal karaoke/cabaret singing American Idol contestants are able to go on tour and make money, then I would hope that A.D.D. could do the same.

reply

Well they are very unoriginal, they have lame, whiny lyrics and are just plain annoying so.....yes unfortunatley
