Not To be A Hater But...

alrigh despite the fear or just concern that some might tag me as a "troll" am i the only rock listener that flat out hates hair metal (although i think its also called glam metal)? sure in the 80s it must have been a great way to make money, but i never saw what was great about it, like emo, and modern day "punk" every band to me sounded pretty much the same, almost no band had anything that made unique, or even memorable (at least for me) with a few exceptions of course. If i had lived during the 80s i probably would have been one of those dudes that still listened to the ramones and would rather hear metallica, anthrax, slayer and megadeth.

No offense to those who like hair/glam metal, but i just wnated to let it out.

Your not alone. I was born in '79, and grew up on that stuff. I hated it then, and I hate it now. With one exception, Twisted Sister. I always liked, "We're Not Going To Take It," and "I Wanna Rock." You're also right about emo and modern punk. And all those bands you listed are awesome.
Well, his pants stayed on, so that's a good sign. And....Wait! Do I smell cookies?

Hair metal bands are a popular subject of comedy due to the real or perceived lack of serious approach to music and their easily parodied appearance. While it may not be my favorite genre of music, I am a guitarist of 35 years and there's a hell of a lot of serious and sometimes technically incredible guitar playing going in in what we now call hair metal. Some of the compositions reach awesomeness also. Try Giant's "See You In My Dreams" or Kingdom Come's "Get It On" and see if you agree. Now, try to think if you've heard anything as memorable that was created recently.

I dont deny hair metal songs have awesome guitar playing, im saying they all sounded the same to me, i once confused poison with motley crue, cause i couldnt tell the 2 lead singers a part.

Anything memorable recently..mmm... I´m assuming by recently you mean in the last decade (2000-09)

if so i´d add green day´s american idiot album, almost all of the songs on that album have something awesome about them.
Best of you by Foo fighters, that hands down is their best song IMO
Helena, I´m not ok, and welcome to the black parade by My chemical romance, i never considered these guys emo, not musically at least.
Perfect situation by weezer
Mr. brightside by The killers
Stay togehter for the kids by Blink 182
Bring me to life by Evanescence
Cute without the e and my blue heaven by taking back sunday
that´s just naming a few (since we´re talking rock music im leaving the other genres out)

the last decade had some bands that were unknown to most, but were still very kick ass for instance

Saves the day- a late 90´s emo band, totally awesome and actually sound unique (try Freakish or At you funeral)
Less than jake- a ska-punk that has a great fusion of both genres (Look what happened happened and the science of selling yourself short)
Nofx- dont know if they count cause i hear theyre pretty popular, but they´re one of those punk bands that dont sound anything like, well most lame ass punk bands of today. (the seperation church and skate)

though there have been hair metal songs that i think are just straight up awesome:

Quiet riot´s cum on feel the noize
Twisted sister´s i wanna rock and we´re not gonna take it (sometimes i wonder if they count as hair metal, any way i like these guys cause they were unique in the genre)
