Actors over Acting

I think some poor casting choices
Sean Hayes as Frank Lorenzo was way over the top, couldn't stomach watching him
Will Ferrel played Tom as a feministic with a limp wrist
Wanda Sykes as Louise lacked the warm personable character Weezy was
Jamie Fox does a good George Jefferson, but evem George didn't have that attitude every breathing moment
Couldnt listen to Woody Harrelson with that poor Archie imitation, how many times did he have to say Little Gurlie
Jennifer Hudson kept blowing the lyrics, sounded like they Moved On Up to the East Tide
And they couldn't cast an English actor to play an English role, we Americans are horriblle at English accents, Yet Brits always seem to play Americans so convincingly
just my opinion

I felt the same about Edith and George insofar as over-mannerisms. Marisa was way to dancy imitating Edith’s “rushed” walking and Foxx’s George was way too animated in his movements, especially in the All In The Family episode. Hemsley was fluid in his movements in the original “The Jeffersons” while Foxx appeared to have some neurological malady.

None the less, it was a good idea and overall a good two shows.

Not Hudson's best performance for sure. She even looked like she knew it.

Fox's George Jefferson impression was hilarious, but far too over the top. It was more like he was sending the character up instead of doing an homage. Came off more like an SNL skit.

Sean Hayes is sort of what was wrong with the special. It didn't know what it was trying to be. He played to his strengths and does what he does. He's no stranger to larger than life theater. But it certainly didn't fit with rest of the production.

Which could have been fine. Are we doing a loving tribute to the show, or are we trying to recreate a live production of a classic program as commentary on modern times and how far we've come or haven't? The special never had solid footing one way or the other.

Excellent summation

Paul Benedict wasn't British either.
