So many nominations?
I really don't understand the awards these days. The actors were very good but this was a disappointing film. Looks like another "Nomadland" for this this season.

shareI'll let you in a super secret only Orko and Cringer know of: oscars=shit.
shareThis film is way better than Nomadland.
You said it yourself, the actors are really good. That accounts for four of its nominations.
Unlike Nomadland, this is actually a film. There is a story here. Very good screenplay. On the technical side, the Cinematography is great, along with the sound and score.
I was engrossed throughout the film and the great twist at the end was really well done.
better than Nomadland? that's not much of an achievement. that movie was so slow and boring, i couldn't last 30 minutes of it. Sometimes, slow movies are great, but it seems they'll give Oscars like candies these days.
shareI only said it was better than Nomadland because the OP compared the films. I agree that being better than Nomadland is not a great achievement.
Personally, I wasn’t bored. I enjoyed every minute of it. Unlike Nomadland, I cared for most of the characters. That is very important for me to like a film.
I am not saying that i hate both the movies. I compared them only because all the main characters are underbaked in both of them and the story leaves too much too imagination (not in a good way). Like Nomadland never explores the Mcdormand's character properly, Power of the dog ignores the protagonist as well. Yet both are/were contesting in the best movie/director category. For me the twist was that well done, mainly because it is never explained Phil's change of heart among many other things.
