The ultimate irony about Anna...

...is that she became a true martyr while all the other victims were not real martyrs only labeled such by the cult to justify their horrible acts. She became a martyr not in the way the cult sees it but by sacrificing herself so no other "martyrs" (ie victims of the cult) could exist. What she revealed to the Mademoiselle was a lie to destroy the cult. She didn't see the afterlife nor did she see the revelation that there wasn't in fact an afterlife. What she did is lie to her that she saw it and that there was nothing. That the entire purpose of the cult lead to nowhere and there was no point for them to keep going. The Mademoiselle killed herself at the end because there was no purpose for her to live her life anymore since she devoted it to the cult.

You mention "a lie" a number of times in your Martyrs posts, what makes you so sure about that? What was the purpose of Anna's vision in accordance with your theory?

Well my opinion is that there was no vision. The movie makes it nuanced enough to either think she saw something or she was hallucinating or neither of those. It's left to interpretation but based on the actions of the cult leader (Mademoiselle) at the end I lean more towards that even if she saw something she lied to her in order to end the cult. She could have seen the afterlife for all we know but told her that she saw that there was nothing to prevent future potential young girls from becoming "martyrs".
