Buy-to-let: the housing mess that no-one talks about.

If you live in the UK and you are young, you are absolutely screwed financially. The runaway train that is the buy-to-let market continues to distort the housing market ever more. The irony in it is that the media is refusing to ever talk about it. Many people are unaware at just how many properties have been bought over by buy-to-let. Experts are predicting that in 10 or so years, 1 in 3 homes will be buy-to-let. At the moment it stands at 1 in 5. Unless buy-to-let is made illgegal, we face a future of rent.

Double-post I know. The other major problem with the housing crisis is that we know what happens with the rich...the rich get richer whilst poor get poorer. It looks like the boomers are going to become ever richer at the expense of their children.

It's normal capitalism in action. Those buyers are taking huge risks that will bite them in a downturn even harder than if they weren't renting because at least then they'd get value by living in the place. I bet you don't think businesses like Uber and Air B&B should also be illegal, do you? When you have a resource you tend to think differently about it than you do someone else's.

The UK government bends over backwards in keeping interest rates artificially low to support homeowners but it does fuel the buy to let market.

It's that man again!!
