EXACTLY!!!! It's like whoever wrote this piece of crap didn't even bother to research anything about our economy.
Seriously...a start-up and they lived *there*!?!? Oh, wait, wait...and she had her website. I'm from SF...basically the hub of where everyone and their mom wants to do a start up. If you're lucky...*maybe* can get one of the nicer apartments down town. I'll admit their swanky, but they ain't nearly the same size as what was shown in this thing posing as movie.
I'm actually confused as to where Winnie DID LIVE?!?! At the beginning it looks like a downtown modern apartment with huge Windows (but I think it may have been a suite of some type or condo within a hotel because the duvet on their bed has the name of a hotel in Manhattan- which I now forget) but then towards the end, Winnie is walking up to a brownstone that looks uptown-ish. So who knows!?
As far as money yes it seems odd that either of them would have that type of money to afford either of those places WITHOUT at least SOME major help from parents. Maybe Winnie's Mom (Gekko's ex wife Kate I think was her name) anyway, maybe she made out ok after divorcing Gordon...and/or remarried another wealthy man and helps her. We know Jake's Mom has nothing so who knows.
Yes, in this economy it doesn't seem plausible that a young financial whiz kid could make so much money, but who knows. I don't live in that world or NY...but I have traveled enough and spent enough time there to know that there ARE definitely young people who do get lucky like that either in business or just being in the right place at the right time. And just because mid America hasn't been doing well in recent years....there is still a LOT of money out there. Don't let anyone fool ya!
Yeah, people just can't seem to accept the fact that there are people who, got lucky or talented, or being at the right place, in the right time, with the right skill set, can afford to live in places they would never even have a chance to step in. Jealousy *beep*!
