Winnie Gekko and money?
Seriously, she complains about her money grubbing boyfriend but she is living in a fancy condo and eating lobster bisque in fancy restaurants. WTF is that about??
shareWhat annoyed me about the character the most was her unrealistic disregard for 100 million dollars. I don't care how someone feels about their father. No one in real life would ignore having access to such a sum. She knew Jake was trying to support the energy fusion scientist. It didn't occur to her to offer to help her man?
I'm annoyed that Winnie left her father completely alone and more or less penniless when he was released from prison after she had promised to help him; blamed him for her brother becoming a drug addict and OD-ing; and quit Jake just because he had been associating with her father more than she originally knew about. Sure he didn't tell her but so what? If the money Gordon stole (that he had earned actually) didn't matter to her, what difference did it make? She didn't ask exactly what they did or talked about together. So seriously, how did what little she knew add up to Jake being "just like him" and making her no longer feel "safe" with him? I'm going to chalk this last bit up to pregnancy hormones but for all the rest - Get over yourself, Winnie.
It makes me smh at these movies where the guys are in love with these judgmental, self-righteous girls who push them away and then the guys practically beg to get back with them.
It's about pride. That was dirty money to her. It was what in her mind caused her to grow up without a father and the death of her brother. She wanted nothing to do with it. Yes it was weird that she was marrying into money anyways, but it's clear why she didn't want her dad's money.
Would you be willing to take 100 million to grow up without a dad or have your sibling killed?
