Didn't Gekko have a son?...

Maybe this was brought up before, but didn't Gordon Gekko have a son in the first one and not a daughter?. And wasn't that son Oliver Stone's actual real life son?

reply

Yes he had a son, Rudy, who was Oliver Stones real life son. In the film Gordon mentions that Rudy was "gone", but never went into detail.

reply

In the movie Gordon mentions Rudy was on drugs very bad and it was implied Rudy either killed himself or the drugs killed him.

reply

Indeed, it's repeatedly mentioned that this is the thing that drove the deepest wedge between her and Gordon.

Who the hell missed the entire contretemps between her and her father on the steps outside the charity event? You guys sleeping through that part?

As far as son vs. daughter, the suggestion is that she came after the original WS movie but before the jail time.

I know right?! Who misses large chunks of movies?! I know people who will say they saw a movie when really they were on the phone half the time or if they saw it in a theatre they must have been in La-la land because they have no recollection of 1/2 of it. Then they come on these boards and waste space. Stupid. In fact, it was referred to many times. I'm assuming Winnie was younger...probably born soon after the original Wall Street ended.

Rudy ODed.

"Do I see sheets of plastic in your future?"

reply

Clearly along the way Rudy magically became a female.

reply

And clearly, you weren't paying attention to the movie. Gordon told Jacob that one of the reasons why Winnie is so bitter towards him (Gordon) is because she blames him for her brother's overdose. Her brother's name was Rudy.

I think in the deleted scenes Gecko's daughter explains that Gordon's absence when it came to Rudy's dying of a drug addiction was the root of her and her dads issues

reply

They're in the current version. A scene (as I mention above) from the charity event.

Someone's commenting based on seeing the original theatrical release, apparently.

This movie is so bad, the people posting here don't realize that the son, Rudy, and his unfortunate death from drugs is continuously referenced and talked about in the movie. But I don't blame the viewer, the plot is poorly constructed and actually misses not only what was really happening in the financial markets at the time it was being made, but it bares no emotional resemblence to the original story.

this isnt a bad movie not great but not horrible
