Stephen King was tweeting about this today.

He had good things to say about it. He said it was slow paced and a slow burn, but involving. The Glick in the hospital scene could have been directed by John Carpenter.

Now why do they refuse to give us a chance to see it? Studio politics? They could make at least some of the money back. Usually when they shelve a movie they think it'll be an embarrassment.

reply

Maybe the studios are shelving movies to make sure there are no "sex pests" starring in it and when the coast is clear they release it?

reply

This is the only one I know of.

reply

Was it shelved during the time of covid? That could have played part in its extended downtime. Then when it was time to be released they wanted to determine how it should be released and then got stuck in negotiations with streaming services.

reply

Probably something like that. Other things I've read made it sound like they'd really shelved it, but that's the internet for you. Negativity rules.

reply

They aren’t shelving it. Last I heard they were putting it on HBO Max.

Good to hear.

If they had any confidence in this, it would be released in theatres 1st.. I've had just about enough of this streaming bullshit.. Pandemic is over, make the further effort to release movies in theatres 1st before streaming

The problem is that Stephen King is one of those glass half full types, he says good things about most movies he watches. He praised The Boogeyman (2023) which was so bland and generic. If he's saying it's slow paced and a slow burn then it could be a complete borefest, I mean something has to be up as this has been delayed and lingering in no mans land for ages now.

reply

I agree with you about the Boogeyman. That was a disappointment. I've enjoyed many of his recommendations, though.

Sounds like it's getting a release finally, so we'll get to see for ourselves.

A friend at New Line have seen a screening and its not deemed very good or scary. She compared it to : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887261/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3_tt_8_nm_0_q_hellra

Slow paced and a slow burn sounds more like a backhanded compliment and just another adaptation for him to shit on, though truth be told, the Rob Lowe 2004 version was pretty much ass.. In the end, the 1979 movie is the definitive version. Tobe Hooper did a good job and the Barlow design was very Nosferatu looking

reply

I don't think "slow burn" is a dig coming from King.
