* King hits the new kid for standing up for him * Set's the new kid up for a beating and tapes it * Videotapes his new friends illegal "road rage" fight * Encourages him to fight in a brutal tournament * Goes to hang out with his "friends" nemesis
Alternative ending should have been: 1. Jake is told just before the final duel with Ryan that Max had plotted this all. 2. Jake friends up with Ryan and they both go kick Max's ass (even homicide, maybe?) in the hospital.
Because Max didn't set him up. Baja did. She knew that her boyfriend wanted to fight with the new kid who has a rep as a natural. He wanted to show off. So she set it up for him. He came to the party because of her. Not because of Max.
Max on the other hand liked the fights. He was interested in the new guy who had the talent naturally that he didn't even with training. You can't blame him for wanting to see what the new kid had against the big gun of the school. And Jake was pissed at Max too when he came in. But Max was the one who showed Jake the way to MMA and his trainer.
This movie is corny as hell, but it's brilliant in a few ways. Major commentary on our sick society.
Ryan and his boys are obvious villains. So are all the sheep who watch too. But Max really flies under the radar. He's a crony, but a crony to the sickness. The violence. He turns his back on his new friend (Jake) just to post the vid online.
I actually see it a bit differently because Max didn't set the Jake up. Baja did. Max was just at the party. If you remember when Jake was resist Max even said "I don't think Iowa into it man." and you never saw that MAx posted the vid honestly it was all the other camera phones and such were the reason it spread. I do think the road rage recording thing was stupid but I think he did more so to get some rep for Jake. Honestly the whole nemesis thing was is a little too much. I think for the most part it wasn't that Jake and real were enemies as much as rivals. The whole conflict is really about the fact that Ryan kind of went off the edge. which is why the climax was what it was. Notice Ryan wasn't a dick anymore. It was aboutt he sport but one guy took it too far. And if you remember Max was smore or less friends with Ryan before Jake.
If I am misreading you, please correct me. But you know what I took away from your post? There are no bad guys in this movie. Just some kids who got "caught up" in the game.
I dunno about you, but I find underground fight clubs to be pretty sick. Even worse when you feel the need to broadcast it. That whole town that Jake and his family moved to was filled with sickos.
Sure there's grey, but that doesn't mean there isn't some black and white too.
How am I on a high horse if you agree with me? I'm sure you are well aware of all the fights that exist on youtube and a ton of other sites. Pre-planned, video taped and marketed virally. That is sick.
I got into fights as a kid, but it wasn't "just for fun"
You are misreading me and I think you need to get a grip here. Contrary to what you think was going on in that town the underground fight was not to the death and frankly, other than the first fight between Jake and Ryan all of them were organized. Given they were still brutal nobody was getting killed or beat within an inch of their life. These kids weren't stupid. And like I said the big conflict came from the fact that Ryan was taking things too far as you see int he last fight scene when Ryann had Jake in a Guillotine Choke for too long even his friends were telling him to ease up. It may seem extreme but fighting was a typical thing and funt hing to these guys, it's a sport and there is a respect behind it.
Get a grip on what? Lol, I don't recall attacking you.

Nobody was getting?!?! LMFAO, this is your justification for underground fight clubs? LOL, that is hilarious. "Oh, nobody is getting killed, what's the harm?"
You want to fight, go into a gym and do the proper training.

Nick, i dont know what it is about your comment(s), but it reminds me of the sentence correcting and rephrases i had to do in social studies. Please stop that so people may understand you better.
but back on topic - i think Max didn't realize he was part of the diesel that fueled the situation. some people are like that, being the root of all evil without knowing. the cause. lamen terms, Max was a ol' snake in the grass. (loads shotgun)
