i train karate, and have been doing so for a good 2 years now. in that time, even in sparring, i have not seen anyone use gloves. we use pads to practise punches and kicks against, but never gloves.

Karate or whatever they were doing in Karate Kid didn't require them to throw closed fists, at least not the face (skull).

Truth, until gloves were used in MMA there were minimal head strikes. with the gloves you can punch someone in the head without breaking your hand. Karate, when i trained, we never struck at the head (then again i only got to 3rd degree brown, i realize black belt is different).

Anyone who has never set foot in a ring slags off gloves. They're from stopping you breaking your hands when punching especially to the head. Its nothing about being a wimp at all. Trust me, hitting with/ being hit by gloves hurts just as much as a bare fist and its worse because you're in for more as the attacker didnt break his hand by not wearing gloves. I've fought with foot protectors and broken my God damn foot before!

i agree the whole fact that they bring out gloves everytime theres a street fight is ridiculous. If i'm at a party and someone wants to fight me i'm not going to say, let me get my UFC gloves first and put on my fighting gear.
They act like its a real MMA fight that is sanctioned and everything thus making the gloves mandated instead of a street fight which is what it really is.
Hell even Rocky took out Tommy Morrison without gloves. They didn't say hold on lets go get our boxing gloves and make it official.
If you notice most of the guys in the movie fighting had been "trained" fighters. When you are doing an MMA fight you would be retarded NOT to wear gloves (street fight or not) and they would realize this fact. Not saying they didn't screw up other stuff in this movie, but that was pretty legit.

In The Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso was fight in a tournament against Johnny Lawrence. Jake and Ryan were fighting out side and slaming each other on to the ground with out padding. There is also the part where Jake was slamed into the hod of a car. Yeah Ryan would make Johnny and Daniel his *****.
