2 problems

I like Guy, love the show, but I have 2 complaints. #1 the flip flops in a kitchen. #2 Dude needs to get some new catch phrases. Yeah, I know that hash is money and the barbeque is out of bounds. Get a thesarus and study up on some adjectives, bro.

I hadn't thought about Complaint #1, but you're spot-on with Complaint #2. TV personalities get tiresome very quickly because they just parrot the same buzz phrases over and over. Good point.

No problem here with shorts in a commercial kitchen, but open toed shoes and flip flops are a health code violation in most states.

Another problem - many of the kitchen staff are minorities (blacks and Latinos) yet the crowd out front are usually white. I know minorities eat at and work at diners, drive ins and dives. Try to find one with some dark people who aren't wearing an apron and hair net.

Lol, this is a problem for you?

Recently they did a chicken shack where the guy who owned it was black and a good majority of the customers were similarly pigmented. Happy?

I've seen plenty of black customers at these diners that he visits. Not all but a few. Its not like your likely to see a lot of minorities living near these great diners or maybe they aren't hungry for that type of food?

Im black, im not much for italian food but I can do a decent meaty lasagna. Not a lot of good italian food places that I know about where I live (california).

Your right there he mainly goes to places that are in gentrified yuppie neighborhood. The times he has been to Chicago and tried the Mexican food and BBQ he went to yuppie restaurants. When Chicago has lots of BBQ places that are actually dives. Plus it is gross that he wears flip flops in the kitchen down right nasty.

The flip flops is the reason I came to this board. Gross! Of course, when I used to work in food service, we were required to not only have our hair back (if it was long enough) but also wear either a hair net or a hat, and I don't see a lot of the people in these kitchen wearing anything.

Except in any state i have worked flip flops are a no no in an area where food is prepared and served to the public. Same goes for sandals.

There's been lots of minority owners - the one who used to be a back-up singer for Ike and Tina Turner and the Jamacian place in Texas stand out. Only thing is that they tend to be BBQ/Soul Food places amd not much else. Where caucasian owners dabble in those kinds of food as well.

I still can't get past the visit to the place in Little Havana, FL (another place where the flip-flops were a big deal). Born and raised in Miami, FL - born a year after the Freedom Flights started out of Cuba.

According to this show, everybody in the place is speaking English? And English only? No *expletive deleted* way, Dudes!
