Honestly, in a weird way, I was constantly reminded of American Beauty. A Serious Man felt like the Coen brother's interpretation of some of the themes that film speaks to.

I agree with the OP and the others.

I'd add "Crimes and Misdemeanors" and "The Front."

That's four Woody Allen flicks on the list!

I just saw ASM and thought it was quite entertaining. Pretty good movie, I'd give it a 7/10.

Anyhow, every movie on that list are good recs, I would also suggest the following...

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

New York Stories (1989)

Lars And The Real Girl

The Lobster

Human Nature (2001)

Dogtooth

ASM definitely reminds me of Yorgos Lanthimos' films (The Lobster, Dogtooth) because of the stale dry characters in the movie.
