Did this not ruin the film for anyone? SPOILERS INSIDE!

The man being tortured looked nothing like the killer.

It was blindingly obvious to me after about 2 mins of the torturing and the Mum and Dad were staring at him for ages in the courtroom.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Torture porn? Where exactly was the porn? Are you talking about Jesse Metcalf's ass?

"Torture Porn" is a term made up for people of fans of these type of movies, implying we derive [sexual] gratification from watching person(s) tortured to death.

Movies like, Hostel, SAW, House of 1000 Corpses, etc. would all fall into this little sub-genre people have created to bash it.

I personally love these types of movies, I hope they keep pumping them out. Detractors can label the movies whatever they want.

That's a really humble opinion, dude...

I didn't notice that but did think the twist was awful, seemed like a desperate attempt to catch the audience out. However, what I did notice is that when they are watching him being brought out to the van the other prisoner being transported is nowhere to be seen!

reply

That could be because he was brought out after the killer was. Instead of staying to watch they both ran to get to their car. They could have missed it then.

That's what I thought but when they do the flashback at the end he is stood right behind the killer as he is being put into the van, that would imply that if he was brought out after the killer the guards stood around outside the van letting the child killer soak up the sun instead of putting him straight into the van. anal I know but attention to detail bothers me.

Maybe it's just perception. Maybe they were so full of anger and hate that they didn't even see the second person standing there. Would have been nice though if they had a shot of a man next to him in a jump suit, just shoulder and arm, or something. Just to show there was someone there we didn't notice and had the same perception as the two main characters.

I didn't understand why he didn't get the license plate, he was running right behind it @ one point, maybe I missed the part where he told the police or maybe they were stolen and discarded later.

Also the lady he threatened for her cell...he looked out of his freaking mind, I find it hard to beleive she would have stopped, let alone rolled her window down and surrendered her phone to him...please.

It's all in the details, the details make the chills.

I can see where you would think that, even though I didn't notice that they were different people even AFTER my husband TOLD me the twist - guess I didn't pay enough attention or have worse eyesight than I thought. Would have been a good movie, but knowing the twist made it a waste of time.

The two criminals looked similar, plus the tortured one had blood and cuts on his face. So that is why maybe the couple couldn't tell the difference?

How about the fact the husband didn't see the 2nd prisoner when he looked back and said 'buckle your seatbelt' to the killer? How do you see the entire back of a van and miss a grown man sitting there? In a bright orange jump suit no less?

How do you not recognize the man that you stared at in the court room for hours and hours? And whose picture you saw in the paper and the news for weeks and weeks?

We as an audience only see his face a few times, the family saw him for who knows how many hours and weeks...

"Did you mean for all those words to come out like that or did they just fall out randomly?"-H.H.

1. Both men look similar enough that it's easy to confuse them even when their faces are clean. The blood and cuts on his face obscure him further, making them both look alike. Also the couples emotional state further adds to their ability to identify the killer.

2. In those prison transport vans, there are benches on both sides in the back. The tax evasion convict could have been sitting directly behind the driver. The window is in the middle so there was no way for him to see directly behind him unless he moved towards the middle of the van, which he did not.
