Wikipedia Movie Bio About The End

I'm a bit confused about the ending. Trying to figure out if it was him or wasn't after seeing 2 guys in the van but then the note. So according to Wikipedia it wasn't the right man who got tortured but then how did he write the note if it wasn't him?!

He wrote the note because he had amnesia and thought the couple were telling the truth about what he did. The only reason he knew the kids name was because the parents said it earlier.
