What was actually Hilbert planning?

Hilbert kept an exit behind the blackboard..so what was he expecting? that he would escape alone through this..but how?

reply

Plus how would he do it in front of them?

The door was no longer usable long before the room was small enough to have killed everybody else.

reply

By leaving first and never returning that basquet back.

reply

But would others let him do that? It was three against one.

i've got nothing....haven't watched the film yet!.... is this movie a big hit or critically acclaimed...i see its rating is below seven.....anyway i shouldn't comment as i haven't watched yet. but i'm seeking someone named Bipasha Nath with a id lonesome ....she told me to look for her under the disscussion board of "Fermat's Room"....

anyway, have fun

reply

Exactly, make no sense at all... wondering why he left that big fat clue of "freedom" word on the board ?!?!

reply

not the greatest of plans.

reply

Remember, in the final moments the lights are crushed and they are all in total darkness. The show would be over at that point since he would no longer be able to see their suffering. So at that moment he would slip through his trap door to safety with them none the wiser.

reply

None the wiser as he quietly attempts to break through a chalkboard in a dark room. They'd never suspect a thing!

reply

It was bolted to the wall, so I'm guessing the guy had some sort of device to take the chalkboard down. maybe he had some sort of tool in his bag he was going to use.

Or he could have pointed out why the blackboard says Freedom, ask to go down first, and then leave them to die. (this assuming they never find out he was the culprit)

reply

I don't see why they didn't just climb over the top. I one scene it showed the room not having a roof. I could not see any scene where they actually showed a ceiling. In fact, in a number of scenes the "ceiling" was just a black space. Also all the lights were mounted on the walls. They could have easily have climbed the bookcases before they got tipped over and crushed.

reply

There was more that one scene where a ceiling fan was shown. But they should have tried to break through the ceiling, or at least they should have discussed the possibility.
