Are these disney shows weaking the Marvel brand?
YES
shareYES...!
shareNo. They've put out four Disney+ streaming shows in the last year or so, and I've absolutely loved 3 out of 4, and liked the 4th. These are good, solid, brand-building shows... and in fact, they've been way better overall than the theatrical releases over the last year.
"Hawkeye" isn't just better than "Black Widow", it's a hundred times better!
At least Hawkeye was neither bland nor boring. Black Widow was just that.
shareAnd remember how many fanboys were drooling in anticipation of Black Widow because ScarJo βowns action movies HARDβ and is βSO sexy.βππππ That farting sound you hear is the bubble bursting.ππππ
shareThe Black Widow film was such a lost opportunity. ScarJo does do action well and she is sexy. But that doesn't help if everything else is pretty sucky. Florence Pugh turned out to be a gem though.
shareAgreed, "Hawkeye" was great fun, "Black Widow" was pure meh.
It's odd, but in the last year or two, Marvel's streaming shows have overall been better than their movies! I mean, I liked "Shang-Chi", but it was fluff, and not nearly as good as "Hawkeye", "Loki", or "Wandavision".
I still haven't seen Multiverse of Madness, but for me the last few MCU movies before MoM just didn't hit quite the same as the early ones. It's like they are kind of coasting along now and just expecting these movies to succeed on the merits of the brand itself, and not putting quite as much effort into the stories.
shareSo are the movies. Everything after Guardians 2 β except the two Avengers and Spider-Man 3 β have ranged from mediocre as hell to awful.
