2 questions...

1) when is this supposed to be, compared with the current TWD timeline?

My maths mightn't be accurate, but TWD went for about 10 years then jumped forward about 6 years, right?

But in this series they talk about 10 years "since the sky fell" (oh yeah - third question - what does that mean?)

So does this mean they are still 6 years behind TWD? Which would be around the time Rick got stolen.

2) Was Elliott (EDIT: I meant Elton) carrying a picture of Jadis/Anne? Implying he is her son, and that he thinks she is dead?

reply

I think “Elton’s” picture was of the same woman the main character girl killed as a child.

reply

Oh, Elton not 'Elliott", whoops. Okay, yeah well that would also make for a good upcoming storyline. Damn, I thought it was Jadis...

reply

It was very hazy in that scene so I can understand why you might've thought it was Jadis.

What personally bothered me was how contrived that revelation was. What are the odds that this teen just happens to find the dinosaur bone and picture out there, and the picture is his mom who just happened to be the one who died that night at the hands of Hope Bennett.

I guess one could make the argument that everyone in that community were probably local residents of that town, so it truly was a small world for them.

reply

Ah. Just goes to show how much attention I was NOT paying at that point where I thought it was Jadis - I had thought that Elton pulled that picture (presumably of his mom) out of his bag, rather than finding it out there.

But as for the dinosaur bone - that really bothered me: I don't give a flyin' pterodactyl whether it's the freakin' apocalypse or not - if you/Elton are that into dinosaur bones that are 10s or even 100s of millions of years old, the one thing you definitely do NOT go and decide to do is use it for a freakin' spear! There are plenty of other things out there you can fashion a spear from. Plus, chances are, a fossil is just going to shatter into a million pieces anyway.

reply

I'm pretty sure the picture was in his bag. When he opened it to put the fossil in, he took a quick look at it.

Stumbling over the fossil randomly in the dark after looking for it for how long? It's way too contrived for me.

Actually, with the time jump in the original TWD this show's time frame is in sync with it. Beta is getting his eyes poked out around the same time as Campus Colony is getting steamrolled by the Civic Republic.

The Scooby Gang was in the same area shown in flashback earlier, near where the plane crashed (i.e. the Sky Falling). If they're going to be finding stuff belonging to themselves or their parents that would be the spot. You have to wonder why Elton didn't look there before - maybe he didn't know where he lost it.

They haven't said outright it was Elton's mother Hope shot, but the hints in that direction weren't exactly subtle. The two of them have an awkward moment coming that's for sure! I guess the question is, will they sleep together before that and make it even more complicated? I just realized something Elton: your mom shot my mom, so I picked up the gun and capped the bitсh. Sorry about that. No hard feelings?

With thousands of residents in the Campus Colony what are the odds these two would end up in a gang of four kids going AWOL together ten years later? Pretty damn low. But hey - it's the movies. Plot convenience must not be questioned! 😎

reply

yeah just think how old Judith is now which she is what like 9 or 10 and this is 10 yrs later.. so in sync

The length of the skip forward was chosen specifically to correct the time difference that made Carl the world's oldest 14-year-old. All the screen time from Rick waking up in the hospital to when he was whisked away in the helicopter after blowing up the bridge took up about four years of real time. Since the ZA hit in 2010 - the year the show started - they needed to jump six years ahead to bring them back in sync with our own present. In other words the current season of TWD and World Beyond are happening now, in 2020.

reply

The way I was looking at the timeline was this:

In S1 Carl was about 6.

When he died he was about 16.

So 10 years + 6 year TWD time jump means we are now 16 years since the zombie apocalypse.

But in World Beyond it's only 10 years since "the sky fell" (btw - pretty lame way to describe a plane crash, unless you're a Neanderthal).

But I'll be the first to admit: math ain't my strongest point.

reply

Carl was about 10 in season 1, not 6! Every once in a while they made references to how much time had passed since the world went to hell. I don't remember the exact timeline, but enough bread crumbs were dropped that various fans have reconstructed the rough chronology. Individual seasons took up less than a year of real time all the way through season 8 (Rick blowing up the bridge would've happened in 2014). It was necessary to jump six years ahead to bring the show's calendar back in line with the real world. I assume there will be tie-ins between all three shows and they need to be concurrent for that to work.

As far as the sky falling, if walkers were overrunning the local airport as people tried to evacuate you would've had all available planes departing in a panic and a bunch of them quickly going down. Either because of what was happening on board or in collisions caused by so many planes taking off chaotically with no air traffic control. Multiple crashes in the middle of the city followed by large fires - you could see that becoming known as the night the sky fell.

Good points you make there - thanks for clarifying :-)

...and this is part of the "Breaking Bad" universe.

You mean like, a bad batch of Walter's product is what kicked off the ZA? 😳

In the 1st season Daryl and his brother had blue meth
