The movie is about Scotland. Where are the Scots?

There isn't a single significant Scottish actor in this film. And where are the accents?

reply

Were there kilts? There should be kilts. And bagpipes. Definitely bagpipes. Otherwise, we must call "bullshit." :-)

In the next thread up you're complaining that the dialogue hasn't been translated to modern-day English, now you want Scottish accents? Seems you're all over the place, and just grasping at reasons to criticize the film.

reply

My main complaint is that there were no Scottish actors. If there are no actors, they should at least do the accents. Like how Schindler's list didn't cast Germans in main roles, but they game them German accents.

reply

The Scottish accent we know today didn't exist in the early 1600s, when Shakespeare wrote Macbeth. The British accent, from which the Scottish accent is derived, didn't come to be until the 1700s. Before then, Brits spoke with what would now be called an American accent.

reply

Most of the cast are English or American it seems not Scottish

reply

Yeah, I find it strange.

reply

Why? It's an American movie.

Stop gatekeeping things. It's acting, anyone can do it.

Next time you'll complain "where are the real Scottish kings? This was a wasted opportunity to have real Scottish kings represent the role of a Scottish King. Cultural appropriation."

reply

I'm saying that if they're not going to have Scottish accents, just cast Scottish actors. Schindler's List is an American movie, but the characters has German accents even though they weren't German.

reply

The German accents in Schindler's List were terrible.
This Scottish accent we know today wasn't the same in the time of Macbeth.

reply

But they weren't American accents.

reply

They could be whatever they want. Germans in Germany don't talk broken english like Liam Neeson was doing.
Either do it authentic (German), or do a normal speech of your native tongue.

reply

I don't think they had them back then.
