Very interesting and worth watching - seemed more like a biographical film

The Queen's Gambit almost felt like one of those made-for-tv movies based on the true-life events of such and such. However, the people were all fictitious. It's just a story that really plays like the events actually happened. I rarely see this done so well. Also, I kept waiting for the typical horrible things to happen to Beth as a child. First, it was going into the basement with the creepy janitor. Nothing bad happened to her. She just learned to play chess. Second, getting adopted by a socially off couple where the husband gave her creepy stares. Nothing happened to her here either. Wonderful! It was enough that her mom tried to kill her and the orphanage hooked her on drugs. Also, all the secondary characters played like real-life people the way their stories were written, yet they are all made up. Nicely done.
