This is totally a Superman spoof!
I just realized that!
shareI really thought it was more original with Megamind though. Giant headed evil villain is seen a lot and I am sure Superman has one or two enemies that fit that description but Megamind was unique whereas Metroman was just a complete Superman copy, no doubt. Same with every other character too.... I don't know if you got this little easter egg but when Megamind is speaking as "Space Dad" he almost sounds like marlon brando.... coincidence?
sharecoincidence?
Actually, yes. They didn't plan on Will Farrell doing that, they almost blew his takes because they were laughing so hard. Now, you're going to have to ask Will Farrell if he thought about it, but the writers didn't come up with it.
And SHREK was a Disney fairytale spoof, but it ended up leading into its own story and becoming its own creation, like this film. And that's awesome.
07/08/06... 786... the sentinel of Allah has arrived.
Parts are... for instance the fact that they (Metroman/Megamind) were sent to earth as their planet was being destroyed. Space dad talking like the Godfather who was voiced by Marlon Brando who also played Superman's father. So it was really just a "nod" more than a spoof as no one character was just like superman.
shareA lot of it was a play on Superman Red Son, where Superman lands in Soviet Russia instead of Kansas, and Lex Luthor is in turn seen as a force for good and freedom. The ending of Megamind, with Metroman in the crowd in the trench coat and beard, smiling and privately giving him praise, was directly out of that comic.
So yes, it's a general play on certain Superman tropes, but ultimately a subtle version of a very specific story :)
I got some hints of Superman but I feel they were trying to parody all superheroes.
shareMetroman is a Superman expy (like Hyperion, Mr Majestic, Supreme, the Utopian etc.)
Megamind is a Ultra-Humanite/Lex Luthor/Brainiac expy.
"Need" is just a fiction. As is "should", "must", "value" and "importance".
