1992 Dracula will always be the superior film

Just watched the trailer and it looks like a meh type film. And of course the movie has to have that "updated for modern audiences" crap in it. As a minority myself idc if Dracula was a European tale hell they already had diversity in the original Dracula with his gypsy servants. Woke Hollywood needs to learn the difference between genuine diversity and gimmick diversity. I'm fine with genuine diversity where it feels natural but this forced gimmick diversity really pisses me the fk off.

With that said though, 1992 Dracula will always be the superior film. Even with Keanu Reeves who comes across as Ted trying to do a British accent LOL!

i can't remember if they showed the boat trip in 92

maybe this can work as a "sidequel"

reply

They did. It was brief but Dracula pretty much fked everybody up on the ship.

reply

Dracula 1979(color Scream Factory theatrical version) starring Frank Langela is way better than 1992 Dracula. It shows Dracula's boat trip briefly, too.

reply

I think I remember seeing that one once. I like Langella, he is a good actor. He actually makes Masters of the Universe worth watching.

reply

Unfortunately in the 90s, the director forced all home video releases to have ugly, muted color which has harmed public perception of this beautifully shot movie. Scream Factory fixed this in 2019, thankfully.

reply

Hmm I would have to check out the new version. Don’t think I saw motu in a while so I’ll have to watch again.

reply

I would have approved a black witch doctor on board the ship if they wanted diversity for the sake of it. That would have actually been fun as well, but a regular black doctor is just so ridiculous.

I don't really like the 1992 Dracula because they made him a tragic romantic character and it did not work. He was feeding babies to the vampire whores in one scene and in the next we are supposed to be enthralled by this romance he's having with Mina? Keanu was bad but that love triangle was much worse. A complete waste of a great performance and score.

reply

92 Dracula was okay but it's let down by the romance crap. Kinski's '79 Nosferatu is the greatest Dracula film bar none, a veritable work of art.

reply

I would have to see that one.
I think the only Nodferatu movies I watched was the original and shadow of the vampire with John Malkovich.

reply

Check out Blacula

reply

I agree. Dracula and Mina should not have wanted to be together. It's stupid. Dracula should not be sympathetic. Ever.

reply

But we still have to admit....

It is a better love story than twilight.

reply

I am lucky that I haven't seen any of the Twilight movies. I admit if a woman I dated wanted me to watch them with her, I'd only do so if she agreed to watch a horror movie I like.

reply

DIVERSITY BAD...WE GET IT.

reply

At least you have a functioning brain.

reply

Renfield is definitive Dracula movie

reply

LOL are you talking about the comedy that came out with Nick Cage? As cheeseball of an actor as Cage is, I would actually like to see that one.

reply

He does a good Transylvania accent

reply

He was great in it. You never know what you're going to get with Nicholas Cage, bit it's fun to see what he'll do next.

reply

"Horror Of Dracula" of 1958 is my favorite Dracula film, thought I have to give props to Oldman's interpretation of the Count. Closer to the book characterization

reply

A really polarizing movie. But it's up there in my top 20 still. You've such bad (Reeves) and such good (Oldman) that it's hard to get a bead on where this film sits. The dream-like shooting style really gives some of the bad acting a pass luckily. As a result it plays out almost like a twisted child's storybook. I will say it has some genuinely scary and unnerving stuff in it (Hooray for practical effects!). But let's be honest, Oldman and Wojciech Kilar's score carried the whole thing. Without those 2 elements it's largely just another Dracula movie.

reply

True I think Oldman had a lot to do with the movie’s success. But I would also say the costume and set designs are what helped make this movie a success as well.
