Beautifully Done

Just watched it on Netflix HD streaming. What a great series.

Goodness, there have been SO many documentaries about The War. I really liked this approach best. Letting a small group of men and women from small towns tell their stories, without the usual claptrap from the same old historians that we see in every documentary.

I'm rewatching this on Netflix as well ... incredible series. As awful as World War II was, you really sensed the entire country selflessly contributed to the cause ... an amazing time. I agree, it is presented in an entirely different, refreshing manner ... ordinary people telling their extraordinary stories.

I found it amazing that a country could gather its home forces for the war effort, did so in such a co-ordinated successful manner! To hear that the car manufacturers put most of their assembly line know how into making planes, ships and munitions. A bomber was coming off that line every hour! It said they made planes and ships faster than the enemy could destroy them!
So ironic though that the war brought so much work and prosperity to people. Also amazing to see how the government could put together daycare so the women could work--after the war it was all gone.

I first caught this series at a buddies house, his dad had rented it from the local library. I asked him to borrow it and I got a chance to view the first episode. For the next few months I endlessly searched everywhere. I could not believe it when I saw it on Netflix IS. In HD nonetheless! Can't wait to watch the entire series for the 3rd time or so :)

And I plan to be forgotten when I'm gone, yes I'll be leaving in the fall

It is a great documentary, my wife bought it for me a few years back, I actually redubbed it to CD to listen to at work - you can follow most of it w/o visuals and the score is beautiful...
