General Bradley should have stayed away from that killing zone.
The Germans were too well entrenched and the USA suffered greatly for such little extra benefit.
It would have been better to take the other four beaches and then attack Omaha from the flanks.

By Summer of 44 it was pretty evident the Germans were going to lose the war. Had the US and Britain failed at D-Day, it probably would have meant the Soviets would have been able to control all of Germany instead of just East Germany.
