I wonder who the brilliant military strategist was
that decided to drop a bunch of Paratroopers into a zombie horde. The Air Force was basically door dash and those poor bastards were the lunches.

shareMaybe they volunteered for a high risk mission where they were supposed to land on top of buildings to be observers/spotters for the aircraft. Of course the round parachute suggests not that. Maybe the guy's plane clipped a building and he had to eject?
Meh, why am I even trying to defend this? Bit of fun I guess.
"Maybe they volunteered for a high risk mission where they were supposed to land on top of buildings to be observers/spotters for the aircraft. "
I bet those guys felt really stupid as they were descending to certain doom and remembered that Satellite surveillance and drones were a thing!
"Maybe the guy's plane clipped a building and he had to eject?"
There were like 20 of those guys parachuting in. Also, if they were low enough to clip a building(why), then they were far far too low to parachute out.

I think ejector seats are effective even a fairly low altitudes.
They weren't in seats. Also, watch the scene again. There a shit load of those guys dropping in, so it was coordinated drop. I'm just bored and wondering what possible objective those guys could have had other than dying a pointless gruesome death.
shareCould have used a chopper to land right on the buildings or at least repel down to the roofs.
shareProbably the same strategist that setup the original poorly guarded convoy that wasn't being escorted by air support. You have something so dangerous and you have a handful of improperly spaced vehicles transporting it with no armed Reaper/Gray Eagle ready to drop a Hellfire on the cargo should things go tits up.
