Why even use a surrogate?

wouldnt this be very unhealthy for the operators if they have to spend time indoors lying down with no excercise or real fresh air everyday? When do they get a social life of their own how do they earn? The surrogates can malfunction or rebel.

Nice setting, stupid plot. I understand armed force or police usage (or criples, of course), but what's a point to use an expensive surr in not-dangerous and not-labor-intensive activities like make up, barber shop, kitchen worker and so on?
Far fetched excuse is given in a movie.

I would assume they can get an air purifier for fresh air.. and maybe a tanning lamp so that they can get some sun. Idk about exercise though, that has me stumped

Exercise?
You are overthinking a sci-fi movie trying to focus on another idea.

However, the human body does require exercise to stay healthy.
The NASA astronauts discovered on their long space flights how true that really is. On one of the long term orbital missions, one astonaut lost over 60% of the calcium in his bones. While the others were still alarming, their calcium loss was less severe. The ISS has a treadmill with elastic straps that attach to a waistband the astronauts wear while using the treadmill - that reduces the calcium loss, but does not prevent it. (That, as opposed to some sort of stationary bike exercise.)
Anyone wondered why there hasn't been a Mars manned mission yet? Six months each way, in a confined space. And that is aside from the major amount of required consumables (food, water, oxygen, vitamins/minerals, etc.).

Why use a surrogate?
Aside from practical uses in health care roles around SERIOUS infectious diseases, toxic/poisonous environments, extreme high altitude low oxygen areas, radiation/chemical exposure, firefighting, police work, animal training, and 'silly things' like X-Games learning or 'Jackass' type stunts, and even sports generally?

In work in general,
the human form surrogates would still be as advantageous as humans in tasks that are varied and requiring adaptability. Does anyone think a welder robot in an auto factory production line is generally adaptable? I hope not... (it could not 'replace' a defective robot doing pretty much any other task in the event of a breakdown/failure.) Small batch assembly line work is very impractical for "robots" because of the time required to program and configure for each batch.
Someone mentioned the use in a beauty shop, and that is certainly a job requiring adaptability, and exposure to a variety of chemicals... (hair coloring, nail polish/remover, and so on.)

Vanity.
Just like the hero's wife who's face was badly scarred, presumably from the auto accident that killed his/their child.
Appearances in general would also apply, as would the possibility a surrogate could do work, both physical strength and precision, better than the normal human could, (including extra tall or short for some tasks), and by interacting better with others. (Nobody wants to work around the person with BO, (Body Odor), bad breath, or too much 'fragrance'.)

Anonymity.
You would not see the 'operator' and know who they were.
And, one way or another, you could swap or modify surrogates.

Safety.
How many deaths occur in just going to-and-from work? Too many.
Your surrogate would protect you from the danger in just going to work, car pooling kids to school, grocery shopping, etc.. BTW, traffic deaths kill FAR MORE people than all gun deaths, every year, (USA).
And then there are all the assorted forms of crimes against people that would be avoided, and only a surrogate damaged/destroyed. (And you could be pretty sure there would be plenty of 'wing nuts' around that would simply enjoy destroying surrogates for fun... maybe using their own surrogates!)

I'll leave plenty more for other fans...
