How come that 98% of the world's population can afford expensive surroga

That's an actual question in the FAQ, verbatim. Hahaha! Who runs this place?

Well its like people working and shopping at Walmart. Walmart doesn't pay much but then it doesn't cost much to shop there.

Perhaps people have jobs relating to the Surrogates so they are able to afford them.

well we live in a world where people live on welfare and in *beep* neighborhoods and rundown homes, some are even into drugs and stuff so thats less money to spend but yet.........many still have awesome HD tvs and expensive things in their homes and whatnot so its not hard to believe everyone could own a surrogate. lol

sorry it aint fantasy around here....we have many low income to "desperately low" income neighborhoods and its all true with them. you see it especially in the kids, they all have top of the line name brand clothing and the best cellphones and of course depending on their age, many if not most of the gaming consolses.

and while they might not have big fancy furniture or anything in the house, at the very least most do have at least one big widescreen television and good home entertainment equipment. now there's many reasons why this is....some are just good with money and can work around it while others might just have the right or "wrong" connections. but i see it all the time.

i aint complaining, good on those who have all that stuff. but of course in some families they buy these things at the expense of food and whatnot. i know someone who lives in that sorta neighborhood and one of their neighbors is often so low on cash they can barely afford food and are constantly threatened with getting power or water cut due to not paying bills...hell its been cut at least twice since i've known them. but despite that, they still spend a lot of money on expensive things anyway.

so sure its not everyone but there's a good percentage who look and seem to live better than their social income implies.

You seem kind of stupid. USA has a population of over 300 million. There isn't a single person on welfare who buys a HD TV instead of food?

You are dumb. "Fact".

Right... I am very happy to leave the discussion this way.

Please don't change your current post. Just leave it the way it is for everyone to see. I won't add new replies either.

A related question is who can afford to power all of these things. I think science fiction needs to get a little more real, now that we're experiencing the permanent energy crisis more personally every day.

Not to mention that even WALL-E did a better job of showing what happens when you delegate your entire life to machines.

There was a time when a VHS DVD player were over $300.

another point to note is that if you remember when he was shopping for a potential new surrogate there were different "models" based on how much you wanted to spend. Basic models and then higher end ones if you wanted more of the senses. BUT no one in the movie seemed to have very low end models...

I guess everyone was rich.

Didn't you see the surrogates working in the FBI watching the monitors?

Basically less-menacing terminator skeletons.

reply

Maybe they give them out to people who are just too ugly!

I mean you see some people in the streets and you're like, Ugh! Please just stay in the house!!!

Also I guess if you really wanted one you'd sell loads of stuff to get one.

How come people can afford cars and houses?

Here's a hint: many people can't.

Now get off the internet and go to bed, kiddo.

Funny how everyone missed the point of your post. I think you have your answer.

Did anyone watch the beginning of the film? It was stated that because the maximum capacity expanded from military & industrial use Surrogates became affordable to the general public.

well computers used to only be in the reach of wealthy people. now you can find one for like 300 dollars

reply

The previous poster made a valid point. At one time VHS/DVD players were well over 300 dollars. Flat screen tvs cost over 2k...now you can get a flat screen for 500 bucks...and laptop for 400...Why? Because the Demand and supply. If more people demand it, the more the produce. The more you produce, and the more people buy, then it lessens the value.

Just like with our money. Our dollar will not be worth a dollar in the near future. It'll be worth 25 cents or something. The more money we print, and the more money thats made, then that de-values the monies that are currently out in circulation.

This thread reminds me of Chris Rock's documentary called Good Hair. In it there are relatively poor (and middle income) women who are spending the better part of their income to pay for $1000-$5000 weaves. Some of them were not even feeding their families properly in order so that they could pay for their expensive weave. People will do almost anything to get the things they really want. It's sad, if you ask me.

To each their own...opinion

Also, the surrogate market expansion dramatically lowered crime rates. So it's possible that the gouvernment chipped in, just so most people could get one.

Savings on healthcare too, plus governments would want to be cosy with the makers because of military applications. I can definitely see this getting subsidised.

This movie doesn't show people in Asia and Africa who live on a couple of dollars a day with no safety net.

I know someone who works in this country for cash and tips. She gets an earned income credit because she is a single mother living with a boyfriend. She hasn't paid income tax for her whole life but instead gets money from the IRS for having a child.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
