We're finally are getting an idea just how little WB understands the DC films

It was just announced Suicide Squad 2 is DEAD.....

Instead WB is hiring James Gunn to write and direct a follow up that is a complete reboot/new take....

IMO this along with Justice League, Tell you everything you need to know, and perfectly explains/illustrates that WB still after 5 years has no plan or vision for these characters or Films....

Its clear WB doesnt have a Kevin Fiege, but you want think by now they would have someone or a department that has A vision/Plan for these film, and someone who understand how these films should be made....

but what WB did with Justice League and Now Suicide Squad, Unequivocally shows they truly have no idea what to do....

WB wanted their version's of The Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy....

WB only went forward with A cinematic Universe after The Avengers struck Gold in 2012

The SOLE reason why WB greenlit Suicide Squad was because of the success of GOTG...

In BOth cases, WB wanted to copy Marvel Studios....

and In both cases WB failed, They could not make franchises that had similar success as Marvel Studios....

They had no plan or vision on what to do with the movies or characters, and In Both cases they ended up hiring the exact directors of the MCU films they were trying to copy....

They is simply astonishing, WB Still after 5 years doesnt have any clue what to do....They want another Suicide Squad film but knows based on the first films reception, A sequel will have a Huge decrease in box office....what do they do, Literally hire the exact director of GOTG to come in and fix it for them...

WB had no clue what to do with Justice League, so they literally hire the exact director of The Avengers to come in a tell them what to do and how to fix it....

Its absolutely scary, WB still after 5 years doesnt have a plan or understanding of these characters or films....

Instead they are literally hiring the writers and directors of The MCU films they tried to copy to now come in and show them how to make DC films....

It's pathetic, but just starting over might actually be the best course of action. They've made too many mistakes, established too many wrong things as part of that universe, it's clear to everyone that they can't fix the mess they've made.

Still, it's considered proper to wait at least a few years before rebooting a franchise. Would four or five years have been too much?

All very true. But giving over Suicide Squad to Gunn is the best idea they've had since they started. They might not have a vision but he certainly will.

^this is exactly my point....

They dont know how to fix these films...they have no plan, they dont understand the characters to know how to make the films so the audience Will like them....

They Literally have to Hire the writers and directors WHOM has already made the movies work for their Rival....

I would have no problem if WB hired some like Bryan Singer who has a history of CBMs and knows what to do....

But its the fact that WB is Literally hiring the directors of films they tried to COPY....screwed them up, and now are bringing them in to fix it for them.

Its literally almost cheating....

most of all as I said its scary....It proves they dont have a plan or know where to go with these movies

WB Literally changed the course of their entire direction When The Avengers came out....They saw The Avengers Success, Tried to copy and create A Franchise of thier own in Justice League, and when they and the director screwed it up....The literally hired the director of The Avengers to come in and try and teach them what they did wrong and how to fix it

WB Literally greenlit Suicide Squad because of the success of GOTG...They wanted to have Thier own Franchise....They screwed it up beyond repair by trying to do it themselves with SS1...and are now literally bringing in the writer and director of GOTG to start over and do what they couldnt do themselves, Make a good film and successful franchise

Its incredible...They Literally tried to make exact copies of MCU Franchises, couldnt do it, then went out and hired the writers and directors of The franchise to come in and do it for them...

again if this was SOLELY about talent, I'd have no problem with it....If WB hired Gunn and Whedon because they felt they were talented directors that have had experience with similar films to direct say Birds of Prey and Green Lantern.....I would be ok with it...theres nothing wrong with picking directors who's had success with other CBM properties....Gunn and Whedon's work on thier 4 MCU films are great indicators they are perfect for other CBM's...

but WB isnt hiring them for other CBM's, They arent hiring them because they are talented....They Hired them for Justice League and Suicide Squad....They hired them because WB tried to copy thier franchise/movies and couldnt make them work, They hired them SOLELY because They dont know what to do and Believe they do, They hired them to literally make the exact same movies they made in The MCU....

its almost beyond belief

That's right, Warners is so desperate that they're picking up Marvel's castoffs! In public!

What I want to know is this: Is DC hiring the directors that made Marvel a success?

reply

TBH, all "Suicide Squad" needs is Waller, Deadshot, Flag and Harley Quinn.

I'm fine with an entirely new cast.

I think what they did - by hiring James Gunn and rebooting Suicide Squad - is actually smart. The first Suicide Squad was a train wreck of a movie that tried to be too many things and didn't make sense. SS is a black ops sort of group, sent to do missions against threats that are more domestic than existential. The story in the first Suicide Squad was written on the fly and poorly told.
A better story would have been having the Joker steal a nuke and threaten to use it and then having the SS on a mission to get it back. Amanda Waller could have used the excuse that the government didn't want to panic the populace by revealing that Joker could go radioactive and it could have been deemed an annoyance to contact the Justice League, due to the government's distrust of super powered beings. That's a comic book story you could believe and they would have had the backstory and dynamic between Harley Quinn and Joker.
That would have been the way I would have done it. Just saying.

I like it. Would have been great ... if they used proper writers or directors. Which, sadly, I doubt. They would have taken your great idea and made shit out of it somehow.
Gunn isn't my first choice to helm SS2. Get some old timers on it like Paul Verhoven or James McTiernan. Maybe Brad Bird, Duncan Jones, or Christopher McQuarrie. SS does not have to be tongue in cheek. Some laughs is fine but they need a compelling tale. Much as I like GotG, I think Gunn would go too zany with SS.
