the only way i can possibly imagine this movie will be is a dumbed down version of windtalkers. uwe can NOT direct...kudos for him for finding a tax loophole that lets him try, but the man CAN NOT DIRECT, and now he's doing something based in reality? in a fairly recent war? good god. i can just imagine the matrixy-effects as a G.I. spins in slow motion shooting endless rounds from a .45 in each hand to a metallica song (hey, 80s are close enough to 60s for uwe)

I disagree, I think he can direct he just has no eye for selecting scripts and a nack for hiring the worst editors in the industry. I don't see anything technically inept about his direction, but I guess he is ultimately responsible for hiring bad script writers, editors and actors (*cough* Tara Reid).

not really "inept" so much, i mean he manages to have the camera pointed in the general direction of the action and takes the lens cap off... but he can not compose a shot to save his life and makes movies that a child with ADD would think were too over-the-top. He once argued that he is a good director because a scene in one of his cinematic abortions had like 300 or so shots in a minute. okkkk...that's supposed to make it a good movie? Also, he thinks the high point of any movie is a nude scene...and blamed some of the failure of alone in the dark, in one interview i saw, on tara ried not getting naked. I naked women as much as the next guy but it doesn't have to be in every movie! maybe his scripts were good when he got them, but just turned out bad? it is easy to blame the script...i think he's just a hack.
