My brief report from '1968 Tunnel Rats' at Hoboken Film Festival
I just returned from a screening of 1968 Tunnel Rats at the Hoboken Film Festival just outside of New York City. Uwe Boll was there to introduce the film.
I'll be posting a more in-depth review as soon as I can. Later in the week I'll be meeting with Boll as well as some of the cast and crew. After that I should have some interviews and pictures to put up.
Just wanted to stop by now and briefly say how impressed I was with the film. It's a brutal statement about the horrors of war and pulls no punches. The look is stark and the action is unrelenting. I've never been in battle but I hope the soldiers in the film are realistically depicted. They certainly aren't romanticized a la Apocalypse Now. The ensemble cast does what they need to do -- this isn't really a character-driven piece and the dialogue isn't Hollywood war movie fluff. The story is compelling and what stood out the most for me was the cinematography and powerful visual effects. It's an assault on the senses and has a powerful message.
