A quote from Wikipedia:

The M16 entered United States Army service as the M16 and was put into action for jungle warfare in South Vietnam in 1963,[7] becoming the standard U.S. rifle of the Vietnam War by 1969,[8] replacing the M14 rifle in that role.

The OP's talking about the M16A2, a later variant of the M16. Considering the factual errors made in most war movies, this one was pretty minor(I actually didn't notice an A2, but I'll take the OP's word for it).

Aren't those Blackhawk helicopters on the DVD box cover as well? Another piece of equipment not around during the Vietnam War.

the m-16a2 may not have entered formal service till the 1980's but I finished reading a veterans book on his tour with SOG near da nang and he carries one in the book.

They had M-16s back then right? It is not like he had them using flintlocks or ray guns.
