Powerful ending!

As I knew this was an Uwe Boll film I was not expecting much. When I started watching this I thought I would get 'The Kingdom' in the jungle or something along those lines.

In the first few minutes of the movie I was already extremely surprised as I was actually enjoying it. The opening was already better than anything I'd seen in any Boll film earlier.

As 'Tunnel Rats' progressed it felt like an 80's exploitation movie but it also felt somehow original. Sure, 'Tunnel Rats' had many of the usual Boll problems but this movie was a huge improvement overall.

Then we have the last scene of the movie which just blew me away. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is among the more powerful endings I've experienced. I just cannot believe that Uwe Boll made this.

I agree, i loved the ending, and trust me, i've seen alot of movies.

Don't worry about drew. He wrote a review of this movie, and it was the worst review of a movie I've ever seen: he didn't even talk about the movie; just wrote vague complaints. He sounds like a really whiny guy. And prejudiced, as all he talked about was how he hates Boll, without actually thinking about the movie.
Anyway, I liked the ending too.

***SPOILER ALERT***
I wanna discuss this in an intelligent manner:
The end- the two people(or soldiers if you prefer) ran out of air and died. I am missing what is powerful about that, I will say that I think it was the right way for this movie to end, but powerful strikes me as an exaggeration.
If I am missing something please feel free to enlighten me, I wanna like this movie, but I'm struggling here.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was the most powerful ending ever (like the OP says), but I would agree with you that it was appropriate, and I would say it was good.

It might have been an excellent ending according to the above person because the kids weren't saved, and people from opposing sides teamed up but still died. It's a bleak ending; bleaker than what I was expecting.

I agree, the ending wasn't half bad. I think it succeeds partly because of the long single take it was shot in ; simple yet effective.

Overall the movie had a lot of problems but was much better than the usual efforts from Boll.

Its biggest failure, IMHO, was the ad-libbing from the actors ; the first 15 minutes were pretty bad. Now this type of filmmaking can produce wonders but here it rang extremely fake, like something straight out of acting school 101.

Perhaps it was the actor's fault, but most likely it was a combination of the actors and Boll.

I thought the movie became really effective when it embraced its B movie roots, the tunnel scenes were focused and suspenseful. This reminded me very much of the 80's Vietnam movies that were made in the wake of "Rambo 2".

I think Boll is at his best when he works in the exploitation genre, but under a tight budget. When given bloated budgets, he produces trainwrecks.

He should keep doing this type of small B movies, but I hear he now wants to make "serious" movie about Darfur ; if it's anything like the ad-lib scenes from "Tunnel Rats", it's sure to suck.

i think the ending delivers an effective message, underscoring the story's themes...
and, i too have seen many films.

I felt genuinely sad during the ending. Didn't think it would end that way. Instead of coming off as cheesy I felt seeing the Lantern slowly go out to be symbolic.
