Hugh Jackman
was amazing in this film.
Can't wait for the next two.

While I agree that Solomon Kane was the basis for Van Helsing (the movie), James Purefoy does look a heck of a lot like Hugh Jackman anyway. Just check out some basic pictures of the two. They could be brothers.

They look similar in any pictures, not just comparing Solomon Kane and Van Helsing.

I'm sure there are better ones, but those were the best I could find in 60 seconds of scanning.
I could swear that James Purefoy and Tom Jane look like brothers don't you think?
Fiery the angels fell. Deep thunder rolled around their shores... burning with the fires of Orc.
That explains why I was getting the vibe then :)

Your approval isn't required.
Noob, that wasn't Hugh Jackman, it was Robert Carlyle.

But Solomon Kane was the better movie!
shareI had to check the cast, I really thought it was Hugh Jackman! When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...
I never actually thought of Hugh Jackman when watching this, though I can see a passing resemblance now you mention it.
The most striking reference I got was the costume (and the movement of James Purefoy) reminding me of V for Vendetta. The costume was of the same vintage as V's mock version and the pointy beard made his face actually resemble V's mask and of course it was James Purefoy behind that mask in some of the scenes in V, so his physical movements reminding me of that character is not such a stretch either.
