I wish the writers knew a little history

Solomon Kane, a puritan, took refuge in a Catholic monastery??? Catholics and Protestants were killing each other at the time. Even in the Kane stories, there were references to the fact he was not a fan of Catholicism. In addition, I don't think there were any monasteries left in England, this took place after King Henry the 8th and most of the reign of Elizabeth. Also, where were the
Queen's armies when these bands were roaming the countryside? It made it feel like it was set during the Dark Ages and not during the Renaissance when England was emerging as a world power. I realize the film was fantasy but some of the errors are just as glaring as if Solomon Kane used a machine gun.

In the movie, Solomon wasn't a Puritan to start with. It's only after he joins in with the family that he sort of takes to it. In the stories, obviously, he's a Puritan from the beginning. The family does seem a bit too cheerful for a group of people who cancelled Christmas though...

Armed bands did from time to time create havoc, there were even Barbary Coast pirates emptying entire villages.

Interesting point on the dissolution of the monasteries. Good point, well presented.
