I still dont watch the movie but was Jacob real son of Helen or adopted?

Jacob is Helen's stepson. Helen was married or at least closely and romanically paired with Jacob's father but he died, therefore she became the sole caretaker for Jacob, so chances are she's probably his legal guardian now. Remember the very emotional scene where Jacob asked Klatuu if he could bring his father back to life? His father is definitely dead and out of the picture by the time this film takes place.

You're welcome! I saw this movie and the 1950s original a few years ago, so I found it rather funny that I managed to effortlessly remember all this off the top of my head.
And oops, my bad, I assumed that you had already seen the film when you posted your question because when someone is at a movie board, they'd usually have already seen the movie. I know that I try to avoid movie message boards for films I haven't seen yet that I don't want spoiled because once I went to a IMDB board for an upcoming Wuthering Heights film, and someone put the spoilers in the title of a thread so now I can't watch the film or read the book without the same suspense of not knowing because I know something that's gonna happen in the end. I hope you didn't feel I spoiled anything for you when I mentioned Jacob asking Klatuu to bring his dad back to life.

Did anybody notice that Jacob in the 2008 version is the first name of the boy, and in the 1951 version it is the first name of Professor Barnhart?
