So, Keanu sees the reconciliation of Jennifer and Jaden and decides on the basis of this ONE relationship that humans can change and the Earth doesn't need saving from humans. I think maybe he should have observed more people. I, of course, realize time was an issue, but one incident doesn't mean that humans still won't destroy each other and the Earth.

I think that was the "capstone" to the argument John Cleese was making.

I actually felt a tad less cynical after Cleese's speech - I've kinda fallen back since then but I could see how Klaatu could be thinking about humanity's ability to redeem itself, then finally be convinced by a "live action" parent/child reconciliation
