Why such a mediocre rating?
I would give this movie a 7
It was pretty good.. Besides lil Smith.

Because it's a mediocre movie! ;)
I really liked the movie. I personally feel it was not mediocre. Just because a group of people don't care for something doesn't mean that the group who does like it is wrong or somehow of lesser opinion.

It's not a well made movie. It feels like a movie, it feels like a Hollywood movie. It feels like a Rolland Emmerich film in a lot of ways, which is fine for his kind of movies, but it doesn't work with this subject matter.
Bad acting, odd product placement, cliche characters and circumstances.
It's just a very mediocre movie with a good but unoriginal premise.
This movie needed a more inspired and skillful director.
Look at the upcoming Arrival. That's how this movie should have looked and felt.

Support great cinemas.
Yeah I gave it a 7 as well. People hating on this film because of the original which I haven't seen but even so, watching this film, I had a good time with it. I liked Keanu Reeves performance, some were complaining that he didn't show emotion, well of course he didn't. He is an alien, why would they have emotions like us lol.
"Whoo-ah"
Fans of action-adventure are likely to enjoy this but it is not true Science Fiction. There was no effort made to make it reasonably accurate and intentionally made it as dramatic as possible without regard for accuracy.
In the beginning, the government people called Helen Benson less than a half a minute before they knocked on her door and had no credentials. In truth, they would have called her much sooner, at least as soon as the agents left to get her, to give her time to prepare and to get assurance that they are legitimate. They would at least have credentials. What they did instead was to cause as much drama as possible. People that enjoy intellectual stimulation are irritated by things like that. Fans of action-adventure don't care about inconsistencies such as that.
Here's a snip from a post I made on another thread:
Sci Fi fans tend to hate to have their intelligence insulted, and this film does it in spades. Given it's "message" and it's major plot holes, it's more suitable for grade school kids. Maybe a Dr. Seuss version would have worked better.
Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.share
