How to lose $85 million Dollars

I wondered why this film did not work. Turteltaub is an establish Director/Producer with high budget films. Big movie star in Nic. The special effects are so good that you hardly notice them. Alfred Molina is a tried and true bad guy with so many bad guy credits it is almost an automatic. We have the borg queen and one of the most beautiful women in the world for the final scene but no, it is just flouders.

Why? Nicolas Cage is a bit over the top for someone who has lived for 1300 hundred years. He looks as though he has been on a biker bender for weeks and needs to have his, good wig in this one, coiffure refashioned. His appearance makes his connections with the boy tenuous and out of place. This boy is no Luke Skywalker in any way but Nic Cage does not connect here. I would have preferred just a bit more Conner MacLeod and less Johnny Blaze

And poor Jay Baruchel, who cast this child? His nasally droney voice might play well is some teen driven sitcom. But here where he is suppose to be transformable, intelligent and cute, he is none of those. The child star who plays young Dave is great and throughout the film I wondered where that actor had gone. The two characters do not mesh within themselves let alone any else in the film. My daughter walked in just before the kissing scene between Dave and Becky, "euhhew, why is she kissing him". Pretty much summed up the characterazation of Jay boy. Awful!

Monica Belluci-age 47, yikes, gorgeous, yikes, nuff said.

Oh, and did I mentioned Monica Belluci!

I don't know what this 85 million you speak of is..

However, my nephews are 13, 8 and 7 and have had problems with kissing before, like in Star Wars, but not here. They didn't say a peep about Dave and Becky kissing, but perhaps your daughter still thinks they have cuties? Or she's nervous because her friends are kissing boys and she doesn't want to?

Either way, that's her opinion. We all have different ones and I loved the casting in this film, it was absolutely perfect. Compared with most of his roles, Nicholas Cage is quite understated here and he has lived 1300 years, wouldn't that do things to people? Also, Conner MacLeod is very different than Balthazar. Connor was able to settle down with the woman he loved as well as others. He has nothing standing in his way except his immortality. Balthazar has a true love and has loved her for 1300 years but cannot be with her until Morgana is killed and Morgana cannot be killed until Balthazar finds the Prime Merlinian.

Wouldn't that be maddening? I think he's done well considering that, constantly fighting Horvath and the Morganians and just having to live all that time, seeing the changes.

As for Jay Baruchel, I think you got hung up on his Canadian accent or perhaps you expect all your movie leads to resemble Robert Pattinson?

Some of us females go for those with brains, a nice smile and a cute dog...like Jay Baruchel as Dave.

"I don't know what this 85 million you speak of is.."

I'd guess 150 million budget minus 65 million U.S. box office

reply

Except it's made over 238 million worldwide, including dvd/BR sales so that's a very flawed argument.

hahaha! touche'!

Research before you speak. The film grossed domestically ~ $64 Million at the Box Office, but > $215 million world wide box office, not to mention unlisted current DVD sales and NetFlix sales should put this over $300 Million world wide.

In short, it returned two fold what it cost to produce. It made a fortune.

I just hope it's enough to warrant a sequel. ::fingers crossed::
