great special effects wasted??

if you have watched the extras, they explain how many of the SPFX were done.A LOT of stuff was NOT digital. They tried to use real stuff for many scenes, like fire ,and water and most of the jumping was done with wires and the actors had a really hard time. For example the scene with Bellucci ,that was REAL fire around her,it wasnt CGI.Also, see how they did the "Fantasia" scene, using green uniforms on the actors. The scene where Molina's hand lights up ,that was REAL fire not CGI.WOW!!!They explain they tried to do this without CGI so that it would look real.Did it work?IMHO unfortunately,no.I didnt get it untill i saw the extras.I thought it ws all CGI.We are so used to seeing all CGI these days that unfortunately, one assumes thats what it is.They do such perfect stuff with CGI that is hard to think they tried it any other way.I give them credit for the stuff but sadly,i hardly think it was worth the trouble, just now that i know it was mechanical SPFX i appreciate it more and watch it again with a different perspective.

But in some scenes with the wolves it did look very real. It was pretty clear that a lot of it was CGI but anyway. Did they use real wolves for some scenes too?

reply

Yes, those were real wolves and real puppies. I loved the use of practical effects especially in this modern world where people tend to do CGI because they can and not necessarily because they should.
