Enough with these kid movies! Will someone please make a decent adapation of the Dresden files!

And here I was thinking I was the only one that saw the Cage character as a huge ripoff of the Dresden files. The hat, the trench coat, even the attitude are all Dresden Files.
shareThe hat was very popular in its day. It's not that unusual really and to be expected when the fedora is quite popular. Even Hot Topic and Claire's are carrying fedoras. As for the trench coat, I always associate those with Joss Whedon and Chris Carter who predate The Dresden Files. As I recall, Joss' immortal characters aren't the easiest to deal with at times either since it's the logical attitude for an immortal to have. Yes, his characters also had the snappy one-liners.

The only link between the Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Dresden Files is that both deal with Wizards living in a Modern World, AKA "Urban Fantasy".
Nicholas Cage was actually an Executive Producer for the Dresden Files TV series. He's been a Big Fan for some time.
When the TV series folded after one season, I think Cage wanted to do something more with it, but couldn't because the Characters and the Dresden Files Property were legally Tied Up. So, doing The Sorcerer's Apprentice was the Next Best Thing.
That's really only Rumor as far as I know, but I've heard it floating around for some time now.
I agree with the OP in that I really wish they would bring Dresden Files to the Big Screen. The TV series was fine, but they were hampered by TV Budgets and too many changes were made to the main characters in my opinion ("Bob the Skull" was changed to "Hrothbert of Bainbridge" an Executed Wizard from 1000 years ago whose spirit was imprisoned in his own skull; Harry's former teacher DuMorne was changed to his Uncle Justin Morningway; Morgan was turned Black; Murphy was changed to a Brunette, etc etc.)
I would like to see a Wizard Movie Series made for Adults. Dresden Files would be Perfect if they would just stay as true to the Original Source Material as possible.
Exactly! While watching this movie, the only thing I thought of was how awesome a Dresden Files movie would be. Yes, I know there's a TV show, but I don't think it's that great. While I'm not one of those fans who complain about every detail that was changed (Murphy's hair), the TV series honestly didn't follow the books. And Harry waving around a hockey stick is not cool.

shareThere were a few changes in the TV show I didn't like, but the hockey stick as a staff wasn't one of them. I thought it was pretty cool. They should have kept Dresden's coat, though.
