In the end of the movie, main character calls his african american friend, says it's an emergency. Then we see the guy saying "Yeah, I'm participating". Then the main protagonist goes to fight Morgana, his girlfriend goes to tamper with the satellite dishes and the black dude... Wait, we never actually see him or hear about him. What happenned? Why? Anyone?

Referring to Dave being a part of something bigger, involving himself in the world, not just holing himself up in his lab and working on his machine whenever he can, avoiding interaction with people. It's a reference to the beginning of the present day part of the movie when he wants Dave to go out and do something for his birthday, but Dave turns him down saying he has to work on his tesla coils. He says something about "participating" at that point, something about a wolf needing to interact with its pack to survive. His frustration with Dave about "not participating" is shown in one of the next scenes as well when he doesn't ask Becky out after fixing the antenna at her radio station, where he again chooses to go back to his lab and work on his tesla coils.
He wasn't going to be a part of the battle, he just brought Dave something that he needed for his tesla-coil-on-the-car plan. Becky wasn't going to be a part of the plan either, but Dave couldn't talk her out of it so he gave her a job to do which helped out quite a lot in the end.
He was just there to bring Dave what he needed, after that, he probably just went home. He did his part.
Dave had interrupted him on a date, presumably, he convinced the girlfriend to pick up where they had left off...
