9-11
I thought it was pretty amazing that the kid was drawing planes surrounding the empire state building. this movie wasn't even made before 9/11. it has no excuse.

shareYes, it's awesome that someone took the time to show him King Kong when he was young. I'm not sure how many kids even know who King Kong is anymore, they probably assume you mean Donkey Kong.
shareThat has nothing to do with what I just said.

The OP is unclear. I interpreted it the same way that PadawanEricaDawn did, that you were finding it hard to believe that a 10-year-old would be familiar with King Kong. If that isn't the case, then what is your grievance?
ETA: Oh, wait, I think I get it. You're offended by airplanes around a tall NYC building because it reminds you of 9-11. Is that correct?
If so, please remember that the King Kong planes were attacking the ape. They weren't being flown into the building. They were on the side of the good guys.
Well no, I'm not personally offended, I have no family that died in 9/11. But I feel sorry for the people who did and watched the beginning of the film. I just think the way they shot it sparked vivid memory of the airplanes and the two towers. Obviously the empire state building wasn't attacked and probably wouldn't have been attacked. But the way it fades from the background to the foreground leaves a few seconds of just a tower and two airplanes on the new york city skyline. only a second or two in the fade does the viewer clearly see king kong. But by then its too late and the memory of 9/11 has already resurfaced. I just think it was insensitive. I'm surprised the editor didn't take it out.

Why are Americans so hung up about "9/11". A few hundred Americans were killed, but so what? More were killed that same week in car accidents and murders. Accidents will happen. And the attack on the World Trade Centre towers was essentially self-inflicted. If the USA was not Israel's whore, and helping it to suppress the Middle East, the attack would not have happened.

Troll harder.
shareKing Kong must be the most offensive movie of all time for you. Lots of planes and buildings in that movie.
take a vacation dude
shareI noticed that.
I assumed they meant to reference King Kong, but it was such a short scene that it might as well have been 9/11 (planes etc.) - and I did find it odd (and I'm not even American..)
Then again, if it took place 10 years before the rest of the film (which I assume is set in 2010 or possibly 2009), it would have been 1999-2000 when he drew the picture..
None of this matters. He was depicting a cool visual for the girl that references the original King Kong movie. Of course, I'm not so sure how that would play out in real life, without the crafty camera work to hold the drawing in place. But, I digress, I'm sure I can find plenty of things that I can claim to be offended by in any movie if I put my mind to it.
Carry on.
You mean you never saw the giant Ape, or the biplanes?
I do but kids don't, that's the point.
shareI never thought of 9/11 in this scene. I thought of King Kong. You have to be able to make King Kong references without being afraid of making people think of 9/11 just because it involves airplanes.
