Sylvester Stallone?

I read years ago that Sylvester Stallone starred as the title character in a movie, from this short story. It went straight to video as a part of a collection, somewhat like "Creepshow". Anyone able to shed some light on this info?

I remember reading a few years ago that the movie was in development and Stallone was involved in the project in some way. I also remember it being rumored that he was going to play Dolan. I think it was while the movie was in development hell. Personally, I like that casting thus far and don't really mind that Stallone will not be a part of it.

I dunno. maybe he would have been a good Dolan, I'm not sure. I dunno maybe Ray Liotta or Robert De Niro as Dolan would have been decent.

then again the film that Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner were making sounded pretty unfaithful to the story anyway, don't trust Tom Cruise, look what he did to THE EYE

It was initially set to star Stallone as Dolan and Kevin Bacon as the other guy. This version got scratched.

This film has been through many stages of nonproduction. First it was to be Stallone as Dolan and Tom Cruise as Robinson. Cruise' production company had the rights for a period of time as have a few others including Dennis Hopper. No other version has been produced, hopefully this one will.

I also remember a pre-production version in which Stallone played Dolan and Rob Lowe played Robinson. Just a ton of incarnations for this story... I'm beginning to wonder if it's ever really going to be finalized.

I read years back in USA Today where Gabriel Byrne was cast as Dolan and Freddie Prinze Jr. was cast as Robinson. So glad to see that Christian Slater- probably an out-of-the-box choice is playing Dolan.

I too remember reading a Stallone/Bacon incarnation... I personally think that one sounds a little better on paper. I am a big fan of Christian Slater and I like Wes Bentley's work but I just think the age of Bacon/Stallone works better for the story. I know everyone likes to attack Stallone but in a role like this, where he doesn't have to say much, he could really pull it off. This is one of my favorite Stephen King stories so I'm excited either way but the current cast is gonna have to work a little harder to impress me in the roles.
